New 2027 Mitsubishi Pajero Hits the Market with Luxury and Off-Road Capability

The official announcement of the new 2027 Mitsubishi Pajero generated significant buzz by revealing that the iconic off-roader returns after a five-year hiatus, ready to compete with the Chinese SUVs that have been invading the segment.

Exterior design that reinforces its off-road presence

The new Pajero features more imposing lines, with bulging fenders, a wide honeycomb-style front grille, and squared-off wheel arches. The sculpted body combines a generous glass area, a flat roof, and robust underbody protection, signaling a true rough-terrain vehicle.

Triton platform and reinforced structure

Built on the same platform as the Triton pickup, the model incorporates sturdier side rails, additional crossmembers, and a double-wishbone front suspension, along with a five-link rigid rear axle. The extra structural rigidity promises greater durability and better handling both on and off the road.

Diesel engine and eight-speed transmission

Under the hood, Mitsubishi kept the 2.4L four-cylinder turbodiesel engine, delivering 204 hp and up to 48.9 kgfm of torque. The powertrain is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, unlike the Triton's six-speed.

Advanced off-road capability

With 23 cm of ground clearance, an approach angle of 30.4°, a breakover angle of 22.6°, and a departure angle of 25.8°, the Pajero guarantees performance on difficult terrain. The Super-Select 4WD-II system, integrated with S-AWC, offers modes such as Eco, Normal, Gravel, Snow, Mud, Sand, and Rock, in addition to 2H, 4H, 4HLc, and 4LLc options.

Luxurious interior and cutting-edge technology

The three-row cabin accommodates up to seven occupants, featuring a second row that slides 150 mm and heated seats. Leather trim covers almost all surfaces, while the dashboard features dual 14.3-inch screens (12.3-inch on entry-level versions) and a rotary selector for the drive modes. Features include a 12-speaker Yamaha sound system, three-zone automatic climate control, refrigerated storage, acoustic glass, and a 360° camera.

Global launch strategy

The 2027 Pajero will be produced at the Thai plant alongside the Triton, with sales starting in Thailand later this year. Japan, Australia, and eventually more than 100 markets, including Latin America, will receive the model by the end of 2027. Mitsubishi has not yet released pricing, but indicates that Brazil could be included under HPE's management.
