24-year-old Woman Rescued After Five Days Held Captive in Goiás

In Águas Lindas de Goiás, local police found Emiliane Tamara, 24, after five days held in unlawful imprisonment by her ex-husband. The case has returned to the press for revealing a pattern of extreme violence that includes control, isolation, and physical assaults.

On Friday (21), the Specialized Policing Company (CPE) located the victim in a property in Setor Jardim América III. She was gagged, chained, and had her legs, arms, and neck tied with ropes and handcuffs. Police seized a 9 mm caliber pistol at the scene.

Details of Ex-Husband's Arrest

Ailton Rodrigues de Souza, Emiliane's ex-partner, was arrested in flagrante delicto. He was driving a car, disobeyed a stop order, and was subdued by officers. Inside the residence, the officers heard noises that led to their entry and the young woman's rescue.

Victim's Account of Control and Abuse

In an interview, Emiliane stated that the relationship lasted six years and that her ex-husband gradually stripped her of her autonomy, isolating her from friends, neighbors, and work. She claimed that the man loosened the screws on her car's wheels to cause an accident and even used a cloth soaked in a substance to suffocate her.

Repercussions on the Debate Over Protective Orders

The case occurred during 'Agosto Lilás' (Purple August), a month of awareness against violence against women, and highlighted the importance of protective orders. According to reports, Emiliane had previously requested protection, but her request was denied.

Police Action and Investigation

Major Jorge Paiva, from the CPE, reported that the initial analysis indicates the victim was forced to sign a letter found at the scene. Police believe the document was written close to the time of the rescue. The suspect remains in custody and will undergo a police report and formal deposition.
