On the night of May 25, a homicide at a bar in Fátima do Sul (MS) brought to light a case of family defense that ended in arrest. The 25-year-old daughter initially confessed to killing her stepfather to protect her mother, but altered her testimony when the victim passed away.
Young Woman's Initial Confession
The young woman, who had no criminal record, stated that she found her stepfather, Izaias Moreira Barbosa, 57, assaulting her mother at the establishment. According to her account, she went to the residence behind the bar, grabbed a knife, and stabbed the man in the chest to stop the assault.
Police Response and Arrest in the Act
Military police were called after the Fire Department rescued the victim in critical condition and took him to SIAS Hospital. At the scene, the suspect voluntarily presented herself, confessed to the crime, and was arrested, being taken to the hospital for a forensic examination and then to the Civil Police Station.
Change in Testimony After Victim's Death
Hours later, after Izaias Moreira Barbosa's death was confirmed, the young woman changed her version of events. In a new testimony, she explained that she took responsibility for the crime to protect her 44-year-old mother, who already had a history of drug trafficking, while she herself had no criminal record.
Investigation and Mother's Arrest
Investigator Marcos Ibaré Quaresma, responsible for the case, confirmed that analyzed images corroborated the new version of events. The police located the mother, arrested her, and held her at the police station for simple homicide. The daughter was released at a custody hearing the day after the crime.
