Young Law Student Found Dead in Fortaleza Condominium

Isabelle Caracristi, a 22‑year‑old law student, was found dead in the courtyard of a condominium in Aldeota, Fortaleza, on Sunday (the 13th). The death sparked intense online searches after the victim’s mother posted a video demanding answers.

According to the Ceará Public Security Secretariat, the fatality occurred around 8:40 p.m. Forensic examinations identified injuries consistent with impact against the ground, and toxicology tests were negative for substances of interest.

Boyfriend’s behavior according to the family

Isabelle’s mother, teacher Isorlanda Caracristi, said her daughter complained about the boyfriend’s excessive jealousy, João Munhoz Neto, 33. She reported that Isabelle told her the partner constantly followed her, even on trips to the pharmacy or when she went out for a snack with friends.

Civil police investigation

The Ceará Civil Police are reviewing security‑camera footage. The recordings show Isabelle arriving at the condominium at 5:58 p.m., taking the elevator with João, who later left the building in different clothes around 6:33 p.m. She re‑entered the elevator at 7:12 p.m., heading to the 23rd floor where she was later found dead. So far, four people have been interviewed and four more testimonies are scheduled. The autopsy report is expected in early October.

Reactions from the OAB and calls for justice

The OAB/CE, through its women‑lawyers and anti‑femicide committees, issued a statement of solidarity and asked that the investigation be carried out swiftly, with technical rigor and a gender perspective. The body emphasized the need to examine all circumstances without jumping to conclusions, avoiding stereotypes or victim‑blaming.

Blocking and lack of communication

Isorlanda said she was blocked on WhatsApp by the boyfriend and only learned of the death when she visited the condominium the next day, when the building manager informed her of the incident. She criticized the lack of contact from the boyfriend’s family, who also did not attend the wake or the burial.
