US$2.5 Million Default Delays Payment for JP Chermont's Sale

Santos has not yet received the US$2.5 million (approximately R$12.9 million) payment that Sharjah FC was supposed to make for the purchase of right-back JP Chermont. The delay has made the negotiation the most searched topic online.

Why the Payment is Delayed

According to Placar magazine, the United Arab Emirates club requested an extended deadline to make the deposit and asked Santos not to involve FIFA. The Santos board complied with the request, believing it was a temporary cash flow issue.

Consequences for Santos

Without the fixed transfer amount, Santos did not have the expected sum to bolster its cash reserves. President Marcelo Teixeira reported that part of the image rights was settled with “other club revenues,” but there is still one month of image rights pending with the players.

Impact on Coritiba

Coritiba is entitled to 10% of the negotiation, which could yield approximately R$1.8 million once the operation is concluded. The agreement between Santos and Coritiba stipulated that the Paranaense club would receive the fixed portion only after 2029, but the default to Santos increases the uncertainty regarding this future revenue.

Relationship with the Club's Finances

In addition to Chermont's value, Santos expects to receive approximately R$129.7 million from other teams in the next 12 months, but these funds are not yet available. The lack of payment from Sharjah increases pressure on the cash flow, which is already facing four transfer bans and debts with former coaches.
