On Tuesday morning, the first business day after the extended holiday, the lack of signaling at three points on Avenida Ministro João Arinos, in Campo Grande, caused congestion and accidents that drew public attention.

Traffic Lights Out on Main Avenue

Since Sunday, three traffic lights on the avenue that serves as an exit to Três Lagoas have been without power. At the intersection with Rua da Carioca, a car collided with the rear of a pickup truck, creating queues and slowdowns. Another non-functional traffic light further ahead also contributes to long waits. The third point, after the Engenheiro Paulo Avelino de Rezende overpass, impedes the normal flow of vehicles heading to Parque dos Poderes.

Fatal Accident on BR-163

On Monday, at km 624 of BR-163, in São Gabriel do Oeste, a Ford Ranger pickup truck collided head-on with a semi-truck. The impact killed the driver, Antônio Pedro Zardin, 42, and his two daughters, Maria Fernanda, 15, and Maria Carolina, 11. The accident occurred while the family was traveling to their maternal grandfather's wake in Campo Grande.

Authorities' Response and Guidance

Teams from the Fire Department, SAMU, Federal Highway Police, and the Motiva Pantanal concessionaire were mobilized to attend to the incident and signal the location. The concessionaire recommends that drivers reduce speed, maintain heightened attention, and respect signage in the affected areas.

Impact on Regional Traffic

In addition to the BR-163 accident, other incidents on the state's roads increased the number of fatal victims in the last 24 hours, raising the count to five deaths. The combination of non-functional traffic lights and serious collisions has generated long queues and increased risk for road users.

Campo Grande News inquired with the City Hall about the restoration of the traffic lights but has not yet received a response. Meanwhile, drivers continue to face delays and need to adapt their routes, especially those using the avenue to access the city center or travel to Três Lagoas.
