Fatal Accident on BR-163 Leaves Business Couple Dead, Daughter Seriously Injured

A head-on collision between a pickup truck and a semi-truck at km 702 of BR-163, on the afternoon of last Friday (25), resulted in two deaths and two injured people, causing significant repercussions in the Sorriso region, Mato Grosso.

What Happened at BR-163's Km 702

According to the concessionaire Nova Rota do Oeste, the rescue team was called at 5:19 PM to respond to the collision. The pickup truck, which was carrying the couple Cleodir Darci Barreto, 58, and Iracy Leonilda Werkhausen Barreto, 59, was traveling from Sorriso to Lucas do Rio Verde when it collided head-on with a semi-truck coming from the opposite direction.

Victim Identification and Survivor's Condition

Cleodir and Iracy died at the scene. The couple's daughter, Kauane Barreto, was rescued and taken to São Lucas Hospital in Lucas do Rio Verde, where she remains in serious condition. The semi-truck driver was also injured and received medical attention.

Hypotheses on the Collision Dynamics

Authorities raised the possibility that the truck traveling in the opposite direction might have invaded the oncoming lane, possibly due to a sudden illness of the driver, although forensic analysis has not yet confirmed the exact cause.

Impact on BR-163 Traffic

Due to the severity of the incident, the lane was closed, and traffic operated under a Stop-and-Go system until the road was cleared. Drivers in the region faced changes in vehicle flow while teams carried out rescue and cleanup operations.

Investigation Procedures

The circumstances that caused the collision have not yet been clarified. Authorities will investigate the accident's dynamics to determine what happened moments before the impact between the semi-truck and the pickup truck.
