Amazonas Exit Poll Fuels Search Interest on the Topic
A new survey in Amazonas for governor and senator rekindles the debate on the methodology and rules of this type of poll.

The anticipation for an in-person statistical survey in Amazonas, during the 2026 General Elections, has boosted public interest in exit polls. The study, which aims to estimate the declared vote for governor and senator, will have its data collected on October 4, 2026.
What is an exit poll?
Popularly known as an “exit poll,” this type of electoral survey is conducted on election day, near polling stations. Its objective is to estimate the vote actually cast by voters, offering a snapshot of the election before the official count.
Details of the Survey in Amazonas
The Pontual Pesquisas e Mídias institute is responsible for the study to be conducted in Amazonas. The survey was registered under number AM-03956/2026 in the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) system, ensuring its compliance with Electoral Justice requirements. The exclusive funding for this survey, amounting to R$ 42.0 thousand, comes from the institute's own resources. Data collection will focus on the positions of governor and senator, covering the state's voters.
The Methodology Behind the Numbers
To ensure data representativeness, the survey will employ a stratified probabilistic sample. Participant selection will be defined through proportional quotas, considering criteria such as gender, age group, and education level, according to official information. In total, 3,000 respondents will participate in the survey. Of this total, 1,578 interviews will be conducted in the capital, Manaus, and the remaining 1,422 consultations will be distributed among the other municipalities in the interior of Amazonas. Statistician Alice Nascimento de Assis acts as a service provider and is the technical person in charge before the Electoral Justice.
Rules for Collection and Disclosure
The execution of the exit poll follows strict guidelines to ensure the integrity of the process and the secrecy of the vote. Citizens will be approached exclusively in external areas and at the entrances to polling places selected by researchers. Conducting interviews inside polling stations or during the act of voting itself is strictly prohibited. Public participation is voluntary, and questions are asked anonymously, without collecting data that would allow individual identification of the voter or violate their privacy. The final disclosure of the estimates obtained from this survey will await the end of the official voting process, as established by electoral law.
