On August 10, 2026, EPM Group took a new step by registering the creation of a subsidiary that will operate as a global services center (GSC) in Medellín. The company plans to start operations in the fourth quarter of 2026, with the mission of centralizing and providing support to EPM and the other group companies in the country.

Global services center in Medellín

The new company will operate with a robust technology architecture and will have specialized professionals to certify, standardize, automate, and scale processes that are currently under EPM’s Global Services sub-management. The brand name that will represent the GSC will be disclosed at a later date.

Goal of reducing costs and improving quality

One of the main focuses of the GSC is to cut expenses related to support processes. EPM estimates that the structure will enable an annual recurring saving of approximately 30% compared to the current costs of internal activities and support services provided to other group companies. In addition to the savings, the initiative seeks to raise service quality, allow each company to focus on its core business, and optimize the use of economic, technological, and human resources.

Processes and volumes to be centralized

In the short term, the GSC will incorporate fifteen processes currently concentrated in the Global Services sub-management, covering areas such as human talent, financial management, administrative services, and other support functions. The first activities, slated for the fourth quarter of 2026, will involve talent recruitment, performance management, and payroll and social security settlement. 2025 data show that these processes handle more than 118,000 applicants, about 1,600 selected candidates, roughly 11,000 human resources requests, 8,000 performance evaluations, and around 488,000 salary payment operations.

Impact on employment and technological skills

At the end of the first year of operation, EPM projects the creation of about 400 new specialized jobs. The sought profiles include data scientists, engineers, and artificial intelligence developers, as well as other professionals linked to the new technological capabilities the center intends to develop.

Integration with the city and service preservation

Preparations for the first GSC headquarters are progressing at the La Aurora Operational and Maintenance Center, located in the San Benito district of Medellín. The project includes collaboration with the Medellín District to revitalize the surrounding public space, benefiting residents, educational institutions, and commercial establishments. The creation of the GSC will not lead to the dismissal of employees who currently handle the centralized processes; they will be reassigned to other EPM facilities, maintaining existing contractual conditions. The implementation of the new structure will not affect the delivery of public services such as electricity, natural gas, drinking water, sanitation, and waste management to the group’s customers.
