Over 33,000 lightning strikes recorded in one week intensify alerts in western São Paulo state
Between last Saturday and Thursday, more than 33,000 lightning strikes were recorded across 24 cities monitored by power utility Energisa, raising the risk of power grid damage and prompting an increase in safety guidance.

Lightning strikes, accompanied by heavy rain and strong winds, increase the likelihood of fallen trees, downed power lines, and power supply interruptions. Energisa's Operations Manager, Alessandro Gomes Martins, emphasizes that continuous weather monitoring is essential to mobilize crews and coordinate with Civil Defense and firefighters.

It is also recommended to seek shelter in safe places, stay away from windows, trees, utility poles, and metal structures, and refrain from crossing flooded areas.

In the Guarapuava region, meteorologists forecast heavy rain with accumulations that could exceed 100 mm throughout the week, wind gusts of up to 86 km/h, and possible hail. These conditions underscore the need to exercise extra caution around the electrical grid and follow guidance from authorities.
