Gabriel Bontempo's grandfather, José Eurípedes da Silva, known as "Seu Ratinho," sells cheeses and other products from Minas Gerais in Santos. Gabriel Bontempo began playing in Uberaba, went through the Uberaba Sport youth academy, and in 2016, was called up to Santos' U-11 team. While his parents remained in the Triângulo Mineiro region, Seu Ratinho accompanied his grandson, bringing cheeses, honey, peppers, and rapadura (cane sugar candy) to sell at training sessions and school. The income helped cover club expenses and keep the player financially independent.

Jair, who is now at Nottingham Forest, also benefited from Seu Ratinho's support. He lived with his grandfather and grandson during his first years at Santos, receiving food, transportation, and help with daily tasks. Without this support, Jair would have found it difficult to remain at the club.

How the Cheese Business Became a Pillar of Support

The grandfather transported the goods in his Beetle to Baixada Santista (the coastal region), building a loyal clientele among coaches, teammates, and family members. Even after Gabriel turned professional, Seu Ratinho continued to accept orders. When the grandfather visits the region, there's still curiosity: "Where's the little Beetle with the cheeses? Where's the little Beetle with the rapadura? There's still a story," ask those present.

Impact on the Brazil National Team

With the arrival of Gabriel Bontempo and Jair to the National Team, the squad now features nine debutants, including Seu Ratinho's two grandchildren. The call-up of Gabriel, one of Santos' standouts, and Jair, who was also selected by Ancelotti, marks the first time two players from the same family have participated in the same squad in 88 years of Uberaba's history with the National Team.
