Heavy rains with chances of lightning and storms hit the Southeast, Central-West, and South regions of Brazil this Wednesday (26). The meteorological instability is due to the passage of a weather trough, which is an area of low atmospheric pressure responsible for cloud formation and precipitation.

Southeast region with rain and instability alert

There is an alert for storms and thunderstorms in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, and Espírito Santo. The instability is expected to intensify and increase cloudiness on Thursday (27). According to Inmet, isolated rains return to São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, the Triângulo Mineiro, and southern Minas Gerais, with thunderstorms forecast from afternoon to night due to intense maritime winds reaching the continental coast.

In São Paulo, the predicted minimum is 15ºC and the maximum reaches 21ºC. In the capital of Rio, temperatures range between 18ºC and 24ºC. In Belo Horizonte, the maximum can reach 28ºC with a partly cloudy and sunny day, while Vitória will have rain starting at 12 p.m.

Storm alert in Governador Valadares

The City Hall of Governador Valadares and the surrounding region are under a yellow alert for storms this Thursday (27). The warning forecasts up to 50 millimeters of rain per day, winds between 40 and 60 km/h, and the possibility of hail, along with a low risk of flooding, falling tree branches, and power outages.

Civil Defense advises residents to avoid open areas, not to stand near trees, and to unplug electronic devices during storms. In case of emergency, Civil Defense can be reached at 3035-0534 and the Fire Department at 193.

Weather conditions in the Central-West

The Central-West will have a very cloudy day across most states. Isolated showers accompanied by thunderstorms are forecast for Goiás, Mato Grosso, and Mato Grosso do Sul. There is also a yellow warning of potential danger for storms in Mato Grosso do Sul, and potential danger for low air humidity in Mato Grosso, Goiás, and the Federal District, in addition to an orange danger alert for low humidity in Goiás.

Temperatures will be high, with a maximum of 33ºC in Goiânia and ranging between 28ºC and 31ºC in the other states. In Brasília, the forecast indicates rain accompanied by lightning during the afternoon.

Impacts and temperatures in the South region

Santa Catarina and Paraná will be the most impacted states in the South of the country, with rains gaining strength in the afternoon and accompanied by thunderstorms. There is a yellow warning of potential danger for storms in Paraná and central-northern Santa Catarina.

In Rio Grande do Sul, the extreme south, on the border with Uruguay, has a chance of isolated rain, while other areas will see sun and few clouds. The state of Rio Grande do Sul registers low temperatures, with minimums of 6ºC in the central-south, while Paraná and other parts of the South region register heat with maximums exceeding 30ºC.
