Heat wave raises thermometers in various regions of Brazil

Brazil is preparing for a new heat wave that is expected to significantly raise temperatures in several regions of the country. After a period of cooler and rainier days in some areas, thermometers are set to climb again, with forecasts of highs that may reach 47°C in parts of the Central-West. High temperatures in the Central-West

The Central-West region of Brazil is expected to be the most affected by the heat wave. Meteored forecasts indicate that a large area between Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul could record the highest temperatures over the weekend, with maximums between 46°C and 47°C. During the same period, Cuiabá (MT) may see temperatures in the 40°C range, with no rain expected. In Goiânia (GO), highs should vary between 35°C and 37°C from Friday to Sunday, also with dry weather. Northern Paraná, northern and western São Paulo, and the Triângulo Mineiro may also face temperatures up to 45°C.

Intense heat reaches state capitals and the São Paulo coast

The temperature rise is not limited to the interior. In the state of São Paulo, the Baixada Santista, which started the week with temperatures between 16°C and 21°C, is expected to have Friday as the hottest day, with thermometers possibly reaching around 30°C. In the state capital, the forecasted maximum is 31°C on Friday, climbing to 32°C on Saturday and 33°C on Sunday. Rio de Janeiro (RJ) also has forecasts of maximums above 30°C starting Friday. Both capitals have no rain expected in the coming days.

North-East and South present varied scenarios

In other Brazilian capitals, the outlook also shows elevated temperatures, with some variations. In Porto Alegre (RS), temperatures are set to rise a day earlier, with a maximum of 28°C forecast for Thursday, but with chances of rain showers. In the North-East, Fortaleza (CE) will have a low of 25°C and a high of 29°C on Friday, also with rain predicted. In São Luís (MA), thermometers may range from 26°C to 32°C over the weekend, with possible rain showers on Saturday.

Northern region also records high temperatures

The states in northern Brazil will also experience high temperatures in the coming days. For Porto Velho (RO), the forecast indicates a maximum of 36°C from Thursday to Saturday. In Macapá (AP), thermometers should vary between 26°C and 32°C from Thursday to Sunday, with no rain expected for the Amapá capital.

Watch humidity and heat index

Besides the intense heat, much of Brazil is recording very low relative humidity levels. The combination of dry weather and high temperatures tends to increase the perceived heat in several regions, making conditions more uncomfortable. The climatic shift is gradual, with the cold air mass and oceanic humidity giving way to stronger warming starting Thursday.
