Flamengo president Luiz Eduardo Baptista has taken legal action against Vasco president Pedrinho following statements made by the Vasco executive. The lawsuit is pending in the 1st Civil Court of the Bangu Regional Division and seeks moral damages and a public retraction.

The origin of the conflict between the executives

The episode began after Flamengo filed a notification requesting an analysis of Vasco's economic and financial situation and pointing out a conflict of interest in the negotiation to sell the Cruz-Maltina SAF to Marcos Lamacchia, heir to Crefisa and stepson of Palmeiras president Leila Pereira. The initiative provoked a strong reaction from Pedrinho on August 19, during the boarding of the Vasco delegation to Asunción, Paraguay.

The insults uttered at the airport

While boarding for Paraguay, Pedrinho characterized the Rubro-Negro official as dishonorable, arrogant, overbearing, haughty, and hypocritical. The Vasco president stated at the time that he was speaking specifically about Bap as an individual and not about the Flamengo institution, criticizing the president for adopting different stances when the interests of his own club are at stake.

The legal claims and the defense

Bap's defense argues that the attacks were directed at him as an individual and that the statements crossed the line between criticizing an action and disparaging a person. The document points out that the statements were covered by at least 16 media outlets in the following 48 hours. Therefore, the lawsuit demands a minimum compensation of R$ 40,000.00 and a public retraction from Pedrinho with the same visibility as the original offenses, in addition to the payment of court costs and attorney's fees.

No interest in a settlement

In addition to the financial demand and the requirement for a retraction, the lawsuit notes that Bap's lawyer has already indicated that the plaintiff has no interest in a conciliation hearing.
