Nvidia is officially launching DLSS 5 this week, with a scheduled arrival on September 3 at 9 p.m. Pacific Time. The new technology introduces 3D-guided neural rendering, an advancement that leverages artificial intelligence to bring real‑time graphics closer to photorealism.

The debut in NBA 2K27

The first title to support the feature is NBA 2K27, developed by Visual Concepts and published by 2K. The technology will be available for all GeForce RTX 50 Series graphics cards and laptops, as well as the GeForce NOW cloud‑gaming platform.

Controls for game developers

Peter Kavic, senior producer at Visual Concepts, highlighted the level of control the tool provides. According to the developer, it is possible to set the overall tone and style to match the existing art direction, using a per‑pixel adjustment control to fine‑tune character details with careful attention to their appearance.

Hardware requirements and availability

To use the new feature, the technology requires powerful hardware, being compatible with GeForce RTX 50 series graphics cards and laptops, as well as the GeForce NOW service. While the launch coincides with the basketball game, other titles mentioned in earlier company announcements have not yet received the update at launch.

Reception and debates about the technology

Since the earlier announcement, the tool has sparked discussion and criticism over the visual changes it imposes on game characters. The company itself positions the technology as a significant leap in computer graphics, offering artistic controls so developers can decide how the changes appear in their titles.
