On August 2, 2026, the Superintendency of Private Insurance (Susep) released the first edition of the FeMa Meter survey, which shows that women are the majority in the workforce of the insurance and open private pension sector in Brazil, but still hold few leadership positions.

Female majority in the workforce

The survey, which covers 142 companies supervised by Susep, shows that women represent the majority of professionals working in insurers and open complementary pension entities.

Gap in decision-making positions

Despite the numerical presence, the research indicates that female participation decreases as the hierarchical level rises, evidencing under-representation in the most powerful decision-making roles.

Product consumption still lower

The data indicate that women also purchase fewer insurance policies and open private pension plans compared to men, reinforcing the need to understand this behavior to expand insurance inclusion.

Methodology of the FeMa Meter survey

The results were obtained from information submitted by the 129 insurers and 13 complementary pension entities that make up the survey universe. The FeMa Meter tool, developed by the Access to Insurance Initiative, was used to map female participation as professionals and consumers. Susep's spreadsheets complemented the data on automobile, residential, and open pension insurance, undergoing validation and comparison with other agency databases.

Goals for public policies

The initiative is part of Susep's 2025 Regulatory Plan and aims to provide inputs for the formulation of public policies that promote the inclusion of women both in the labor market and as insurance consumers, contributing to a more balanced and representative sector.
