On Monday afternoon (14), a beehive fell from a tree near the entrance of Jardim Montreal Municipal School in Ibirité, in the Metropolitan Region of Belo Horizonte. The swarm attacked children, teenagers, and pedestrians, leaving many with stings and requiring emergency care.

Motorcycle Courier Intervenes and Helps Save Victim

A motorcyclist, Vinícius Matins de Paulo, recorded the attack on video. He saw the 12-year-old girl standing, crying, and pulled her out of the danger zone. To try to ward off the bees, he used a deodorant stored in his motorcycle's top case and then poured water on the student.

Over 100 Stings and Emergency Care

According to the victim's mother, Safira Emanuele Gomes dos Santos Rosa, the girl received over 100 stings, mainly on her face, neck, and head. The attack also affected her mouth and tongue. Her grandfather and younger sister were stung but managed to escape and received help.

School Activities Suspended and Bees Removed

Due to the risk of further attacks, activities at Encontro com a Infância School were suspended. The Fire Department remained on site until the situation calmed down and, on Monday night, removed the bees from the location in collaboration with the Municipal Department of Education.

Victim's Health Status

Safira was taken to the Sarzedo Emergency Care Unit (UPA) and subsequently transferred to a hospital unit in Contagem. She remains stable in the pediatric Intensive Care Unit (ICU), with tests underway. The family reported gradual improvement, but there is no discharge forecast yet.

Interventions by Authorities and Rescue Teams

  • Fire Department: bee management and removal.
  • Military Police: site isolation.
  • Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu): assistance to those in need.

The Municipal Department of Education of Ibirité reported that the beehive was in the Salão do Encontro, a space used for after-school educational activities, and that the teenager was a student at Ouro Negro Municipal School.
