Maceió and RN Anticipate High Hotel Occupancy During Patron Saint Holiday
Our Lady of Aparecida holiday boosts tourism and local economy

The Our Lady of Aparecida holiday, which marks October 12th, is already generating great anticipation for tourist movement in Maceió and Rio Grande do Norte. According to recent data, the Alagoas capital reached 90% hotel occupancy, while the Potiguar state projects a significant increase in the tourism production chain.
Maceió Registers 90% Hotel Occupancy
Maceió's mayor, Rodrigo Cunha, announced that the city already registers 90% hotel occupancy for the holiday, making it one of the most sought-after destinations by Brazilians during the period. The travel platform KAYAK indicates that Maceió ranks among the most searched destinations for the holiday.
For the mayor, the demand reflects the investments made by the municipal administration and the strengthening of tourism throughout the year. He highlighted that “every tourist who arrives boosts the economy, values our culture, strengthens commerce, the creative economy, and helps the city grow.”
In addition to its beaches, Maceió offers leisure and social spaces, such as the new waterfront, the Ferris wheel, the “Mão de Deus” (Hand of God), and Centenário Park, all of which have undergone revitalization works.
Rio Grande do Norte Anticipates Increase in Tourist Movement
Marina Marinho, RN's Secretary of Tourism, stated that the expectation for the holiday is an increase in hotel occupancy and activity in bars, restaurants, and tours. She emphasized that the state continues to consolidate itself as one of the country's main tourist destinations.
In the capital, the Municipal Tourism Secretariat also expressed positive expectations, citing good average hotel occupancy and consistent tourist movement throughout 2026.
Impact on the Production Chain and Job Creation
The increase in visitor flow has a direct impact on the state's economy, generating employment and income. The Secretary of Tourism highlighted that “this movement is important not only to strengthen our destinations but also for the state's economy, generating employment and income.”
For the Potiguar Tourism Promotion Company (Emprotur), the 15.25% growth in national passenger movement between January and August 2026, compared to the same period in 2025, reinforces the expectation of a surge in hotel occupancy during the long holiday.
Children's Day Contributes to Economic Activity
The Fecomércio RN Institute (IFC) estimated that Potiguar commerce is expected to move R$ 322.87 million in 2026, considering the consumption potential with gifts, outings, and celebrations related to Children's Day. In the cities of Natal, Mossoró, and Parnamirim, the potential movement totals R$ 194.59 million.
In Natal, 72.7% of consumers stated their intention to buy gifts for Children's Day, while in Mossoró the index reached 60.5%. These figures reflect the increase in consumption during the festive period.
Conclusion: Tourism on the Rise for the October 12th Holiday
The combination of high hotel occupancy, strengthening of the tourism chain, and the positive impact of Children's Day points to an October 12th holiday marked by economic growth and opportunity generation in Maceió and Rio Grande do Norte. Public investment and the joint action of the private sector consolidate these destinations as main attractions in the country during the holiday season.
