Isack Hadjar and Red Bull: contract renewed until 2027 and return to the tracks

Driver Isack Hadjar is trending online after Red Bull announced the extension of his contract until 2027. The news coincides with the driver’s return to the track for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix this weekend, after a spell out of action due to a wrist injury.

Oracle Red Bull Racing confirmed that Isack Hadjar will stay with the team through the 2027 season after signing an extended deal. He will continue as Max Verstappen’s teammate at Red Bull. The announcement comes as Hadjar prepares to get back behind the wheel of the Milton Keynes‑based car for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, which takes place this weekend.

Hadjar’s journey with the team

Isack Hadjar has been linked to Red Bull since joining its Junior Team in 2022. The outfit supported his rise through Formula 3 and Formula 2, culminating in a tight battle for the 2024 title against Audi’s Gabriel Bortoleto. Although he did not win the 2024 championship, he was promptly promoted from reserve driver to a seat with Racing Bulls the following year. In that rookie campaign he scored his first podium at Zandvoort. Later, Hadjar replaced Yuki Tsunoda at Red Bull, showing significant potential as the team adapted to new regulations.

Performance and injury challenge

So far, Hadjar has delivered consistent results, including a second podium at the Monaco Grand Prix. However, a wrist injury forced him to miss the last three rounds. Despite the recovery period, the team reinforced its confidence in the driver by extending his contract.

I joined this team eight months ago and immediately understood the scale and ambition of this organisation. There are so many talented people in the factory, and you’re aware of the privilege of driving for such an incredible team alongside a four‑time world champion like Max [Verstappen]. From the moment I signed, I’ve devoted myself to the team, and with the support of Laurent [Mekies] and everyone in Milton Keynes, I’ve been able to justify the faith they placed in me. I’m constantly looking to listen, learn and push myself harder each day, which only makes me more excited about what’s coming.”

Laurent Mekies, team principal, also commented on the decision: “We are very excited to continue our journey with Isack. Since he joined us at the start of the year, he has been excellent both on and off the track, especially considering this is only his second season in Formula 1, which made extending his contract an easy decision. From the beginning, Isack integrated into the team, spending every minute in the factory with his engineers to develop the car, always eager to learn and improve. You could see from that first weekend in Melbourne that he handled the promotion with remarkable composure and earned his place in this seat. The period since his injury has been tough for Isack, but this extension is a testament to how much we believe in him and we can’t wait to see him back on track. We still have a lot to achieve this season, but it feels great to know that the drivers, engineers and everyone in the factory are all moving in the same direction, committed and together.”
