CPTM Substation Fire Halts Lines 11, 12, and 13

A lightning strike hit a transformer at the CPTM substation on Rua Bresser, in São Paulo's east zone, causing a fire and explosions that halted train service on Lines 11-Coral, 12-Safira, 13-Jade, and the Airport Express during the early hours of Saturday.

What Caused the Substation Fire

According to CPTM, the atmospheric discharge tripped the substation and set the transformer on fire. The Fire Department was called at 2:54 AM and sent two teams to the scene, who took about an hour to extinguish the flames.

How Lines 11-Coral, 12-Safira, and 13-Jade Were Affected

On Line 11-Coral, service was interrupted between Luz and Corinthians-Itaquera stations from 4 AM until 8:20 AM. On Line 12-Safira, trains did not run between Brás and Tatuapé stations until 8:38 AM. The Airport Express also remained suspended. Line 13-Jade, powered by the same branch, experienced delays at the start of its operation.

Measures Adopted by CPTM During the Interruption

The company advised passengers to use Metro Line 3-Vermelha (Red) as a free alternative. Maintenance teams worked to repair the damaged equipment at the substation.

Service Restoration and Schedules

After the maintenance teams' efforts, service on Lines 11-Coral, 12-Safira, and the Airport Express was normalized on Saturday morning. The maximum interval between trains was 35 minutes, according to the weekend and holiday schedule.

Passenger Guidance

CPTM regretted the inconveniences caused and reiterated the recommendation to use Metro Line 3-Vermelha (Red) while the substation was being repaired. The service continues to operate normally, with continuous monitoring of the electrical infrastructure.
