Caixa Econômica Federal Strike Begins on September 10

Employees of Caixa Econômica Federal have approved an open-ended strike starting September 10 after rejecting the Collective Bargaining Agreement proposal presented by the institution. The central point of dispute is the Saúde Caixa health plan, whose increase could reach up to 50% over current rates.

Massive rejection of Caixa's proposal

In assemblies held across the country, the proposal was rejected by more than 90% of voters, according to CONTEC. The vote that determined the strike concluded on September 4, with 93.5% of Caixa bank workers voting against the agreement.

Impact of the health plan hike

The changes to Saúde Caixa were introduced in the final phase of negotiations, leaving insufficient time for detailed review by employees, retirees, and unions. The proposal foresees an increase of around 50% on currently paid amounts, alongside doubts regarding Caixa's own financial contribution to sustain the plan.

Strike turnout in Minas Gerais

In the state capital and its metropolitan region, bank workers from Caixa and Banco do Brasil launched strikes simultaneously. The turnout among Caixa employees was 68.2% of voters, while 28.5% supported continued negotiations without a work stoppage.

Formal strike notice

CONTEC notified Caixa, pursuant to Law No. 7,783/1989, that the strike would begin on September 10 and continue indefinitely. The entity's president, Lourenço Prado, emphasized that there is still room for negotiation before the strike begins.

Negotiation outlook

Despite the decision to strike, CONTEC remained open to new talks and to formulating a proposal that could prevent the stoppage. The organization indicated that the remaining assemblies will be monitored and their results released as soon as they conclude.
