STF decision revokes Silvinei Vasques' retirement
The measure comes after the former director of the corporation was convicted of a coup plot and fleeing abroad.

Justice Alexandre de Moraes, of the Supreme Federal Court, ordered the revocation of the retirement of Silvinei Vasques, former director of the Federal Highway Police. The measure comes after the former director was convicted in the trial regarding the attempted coup d'état.
The Supreme Federal Court's decision
Moraes's determination was issued, resulting in the enforcement of the sanction of loss of public office imposed on Silvinei Vasques. Consequently, the decision impacts his inactive status, resulting in the revocation of his retirement from the position of Federal Highway Police Officer.
Conviction and sentence
The First Panel of the Supreme Court set a sentence of 24 years and 6 months in prison for the former director, who was charged by the Prosecutor General's Office. The panel also imposed the sanction of loss of the public office held by Vasques.
Actions within the Federal Highway Police in 2022
According to the investigations, Vasques was part of the core group responsible for misusing the structure of the Federal Highway Police for unauthorized purposes. The main actions involved directing checkpoints and highway operations during the second round of the 2022 elections to hinder the transportation and voting of electors, especially in the Northeast Region, in addition to the illicit monitoring of authorities.
Flight and international arrest
After undergoing the trial at liberty under precautionary measures, Vasques cut off his electronic ankle monitor during the Christmas holiday and crossed the border. He was detained at Silvio Pettirossi International Airport, in Asunción, Paraguay, when attempting to board a flight to El Salvador using another person's passport.
Serving the sentence in Brasília
Paraguayan police confirmed the biometric fraud and expelled the former director, handing him over to the Federal Police in Foz do Iguaçu, from where he was escorted to Brasília. Currently, Silvinei Vasques is serving his sentence in the special wing of the Papuda Penitentiary Complex, known as Papudinha, located in Brasília.
