Corinthians Negotiates Debt with Caixa, Suspends Arena Payment
How the club is trying to ease its cash flow by rethinking Neo Química Arena's naming rights

Corinthians has reached an agreement with Caixa Econômica Federal to temporarily suspend the payment of the third installment of the Neo Química Arena refinancing, while discussing the assignment of the stadium's naming rights. The measure came as a response to the accumulated debt with Caixa and the need to free up funds held in the reserve account.
Arena Installment Suspension
The club was obligated to disburse approximately R$ 27 million in September, referring to the stadium's third annual installment. Caixa agreed to suspend this payment, which was seen as a "good sign" by the Timão's directors.
Naming Rights Negotiation
Concurrently, Corinthians is negotiating with Caixa the assignment of Neo Química Arena's naming rights for a period of 10 years. The proposal includes the possibility of naming the stadium after one of the institution's products, as a way to settle part of the debt, which totals approximately R$ 660 million.
Release of Reserve Account Funds
The club expects the suspension to release R$ 27 million currently held in the so-called reserve account, funds that serve as collateral for the arena's payments. The release of this amount could be used to pay players' image rights and other immediate expenses.
Relationship with PGFN
In addition to negotiations with Caixa, Corinthians is behind on installments of the tax transaction agreement signed with the Procuradoria-Geral da Fazenda Nacional (PGFN), which reduced the debt from R$ 1.2 billion to R$ 679 million. The club stopped paying installments starting in June, accumulating over R$ 27 million in outstanding payments.
Immediate Financial Impact
With the total debt still high, the club seeks to avoid the termination of the agreement with the PGFN, which could reinstate the original debt amount and prevent new agreements for two years. The negotiation with Caixa, by releasing funds and potentially substituting the arena's debt with naming rights, aims to relieve cash flow and ensure the continuity of sporting operations.
