Isabelle Caracristi, a 22-year-old law student, was found dead on the rooftop of a condominium in Fortaleza on September 13. The arrest of her boyfriend, João Munhoz Neto, and the forensic reports released by the police explain why the case is in the spotlight.

The Death of Isabelle Caracristi and João Munhoz's Arrest

The Ceará Civil Police detained João Munhoz Neto, 34, on Tuesday (22), on charges of psychological violence and inducement to suicide. The suspect was preventively arrested after his pre-trial detention was upheld in a custody hearing. According to Police Chief Márcio Gutiérrez, the couple lived in an abusive relationship, with control over the victim's movements.

Evidence of Psychological Violence and Control

Testimonies indicate that João Munhoz imposed restrictions on Isabelle's routine, such as preventing her from going to the pharmacy or office alone. Witnesses reported that the boyfriend retrieved the young woman's cell phone from the condominium shortly after her death and tried to sell the apartment, in addition to prohibiting family members from entering.

The Work of Criminal Forensics

The Ceará State Forensic Institute (Pefoce) conducted ten forensic reports by the 22nd, with three additional procedures underway. The necropsy indicated polytrauma with injuries consistent with impact against the ground, confirming the fall from the rooftop. Toxicological exams were negative for substances of interest. Security camera footage from areas near the building corroborated the chronology of events, although there were no recordings from the rooftop itself.

Judicial Procedures and Secrecy of Justice

The case is proceeding under judicial secrecy, according to a note from the Ceará Court of Justice. In addition to João Munhoz's arrest, the police seized cell phones, a tablet belonging to the suspect's mother, and the victim's cell phone for forensic analysis. The Police Chief stated that other possibilities have not yet been ruled out, but the investigation remains focused on the hypothesis of induced suicide.
