A Latam plane operating flight LA3858 skidded off the runway during landing at Cascavel Regional Airport, in western Paraná, on Monday morning (31). The aircraft was arriving from São Paulo-Guarulhos International Airport and overshot the paved surface after landing in the rain, coming to a stop in a muddy area next to the runway.

What happened on the flight

The incident occurred around 9:45 a.m. while it was raining in the Paraná municipality. The Airbus A320ceo aircraft, registration PR-MYO, was carrying 145 passengers and six crew members. The meteorological report indicated storms, rain close to the arrival time, reduced visibility, and heavy cloud formation.

Status of passengers and crew

None of the 145 passengers and six crew members on board were injured in the incident. Disembarkation was improvised using a ladder positioned directly on the grassy area next to the stuck landing gear, and the occupants were transported by vehicles to the airport's passenger terminal.

Impact on flights and airport closure

As a result of the incident, flight LA3859, which was scheduled to return from Cascavel to Guarulhos, was canceled. Latam reported that it is accommodating passengers on other flights departing from Foz do Iguaçu and providing assistance to customers and staff.

Expected removal and flight rescheduling

Cascavel Regional Airport remains closed for arrivals and departures due to the aircraft on the runway. Latam stated that it will send equipment to remove the plane, expected to arrive around 7:00 p.m., and the reopening of the airport may be moved forward or delayed depending on the completion of the procedures.

Investigation of the incident

The airline stated that it is cooperating with authorities in the investigation of the incident and is assessing the conditions for the removal of the aircraft. A Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) informs of the airport's closure, and the company advises that information regarding changes should be monitored through its official channels.
