On August 20, 2026, a truck transporting donations from Pasto to Buenaventura was surrounded by several people during the delivery of supplies intended for families affected by the earthquake. The disorderly situation occurred in the context of the tragedy hitting the region, marked by deaths, injuries, and thousands of displaced people across various Colombian departments and municipalities.

The problem in distributing donations

According to preliminary information released, the confusion was directly related to the lack of a defined logistics plan to distribute the donations. Faced with the complex situation at the scene, the driver ended up allowing some people to climb onto the vehicle to access the available items.

Footage shows turmoil at the cargo area

Video recordings made at the scene show the moment when several people surround the vehicle and enter the cargo area. The items were removed in a disorderly manner, causing some of the products to end up damaged throughout the entire retrieval procedure.

The truckers' association perspective

The Colombian Association of Truckers (ACC) commented on the episode and attributed part of what happened to the dramatic situation communities are facing. For the organization, the people's reaction reflects persisting needs and the anxiety of bringing better conditions home or to a shelter after the catastrophe.

Background and reflection on aid

The transporters highlighted that they have participated for three decades in the transport of donations during emergency situations, such as in the pandemic and other catastrophes. The entity stated that the current moment should serve to review how aid is organized and positively transform the future of the region.
