VisionQuest brings Paul Bettany, James Spader back to Marvel
Eight‑episode production wraps up the trilogy that began with WandaVision and features the android as a fugitive.

The official reveal and early reviews of the series VisionQuest, a new Marvel Studios and Marvel Television offering for Disney+, have put the title in the spotlight. With eight episodes and Paul Bettany reprising the role of the android Vision, the story continues the synthetic hero’s journey after the events seen in WandaVision.
The android’s flight and partnership with Tommy
In the story crafted by Terry Matalas, the rebuilt protagonist goes into hiding after escaping forces that tried to turn him into a weapon. His discreet existence ends when a bounty is placed on his capture, attracting hunters such as Paladin, played by actor Todd Stashwick, his assistant, portrayed by Diane Morgan, and a hostile android played by T'Nia Miller.
During the flight, the synthetic avenger travels alongside Thomas Shepard, a young Brit portrayed by Ruaridh Mollica. The boy possesses special abilities and may be the reincarnation of the son imagined by Wanda Maximoff, forcing Vision to decipher his companion’s identity while trying to understand human emotions.
The gathering of artificial intelligences inside Vision’s mind
To cope with his doubts and keep his systems running, Vision turns to the artificial‑intelligence personas embedded in his own programming. This psychological and virtual plan, called the mental space, takes the form of a Victorian‑style mansion.
Within this environment appear familiar names from his history: James D'Arcy shows up as J.A.R.V.I.S., Orla Brady brings F.R.I.D.A.Y. to life, and Emily Hampshire portrays E.D.I.T.H., accompanied by the workshop robots D.U.M.-E. and U, played by Henry Lewis and Jonathan Sayer.
The return of Ultron in human form
The most striking element inside the protagonist’s mind is Ultron. Unlike the CGI‑generated robot of previous productions, James Spader appears in person at 66, wearing a coat and a long beard to play the villain.
Without direct access to the outside world, Ultron functions as a cynical, provocative voice in Vision’s consciousness. Their coexistence generates constant clashes, forcing the hero to resist the former antagonist’s ideas about humanity.
The closing of a trilogy begun in WandaVision
The production is seen as the conclusion of a television trilogy opened in 2021 by WandaVision and continued in 2024 with Agatha All Along. To maintain narrative consistency, Jac Schaeffer serves on the team as executive producer.
The episodes are directed by Terry Matalas, Christopher J. Byrne, Gandja Monteiro and Vincenzo Natali. The season’s cast also includes appearances by Lauren Morais and Polly Frame in the Disney+ storyline.
