On August 4, 2026, UK Sport announced it will stop channeling investments in skiing and snowboarding through the British governing body, GB Snowsport. The organization will redirect £12.5 million directly to athletes and coaches up to the 2030 Winter and Paralympic Games.

Direct funding to athletes

UK Sport sent a letter to all snow sport athletes receiving support, informing them that the subsidies will continue to be paid directly. The £12.5 million amount will be allocated to athletes and coaches throughout the cycle until 2030.

Governance review of GB Snowsport

An independent review will be launched to examine the governance of GB Snowsport. The body has changed presidents twice in the past three years and is currently seeking a new chair, with Michael Oesterlin serving as interim president.

Record investment in winter sports

The allocation is part of a record investment of over £33 million in winter sports for the four-year cycle. Roughly a third, about £10 million, will go to bobsleigh and skeleton; curling will receive £6.54 million, wheelchair curling £1.93 million, figure skating £2 million and ice hockey £445 million in transition funding.

Recent performance of the British team

At the Milan-Cortina Winter Games, the British team won five medals, including three golds – one historic in the mixed snowboard cross event – and a silver at the Paralympics.

Next steps through 2030

From 2030 onward, funding for the bobsleigh and skeleton programmes will be managed by a new multi-sport organisation, Sport Org, which already oversees curling and wheelchair curling and will take over the British Bobsleigh & Skeleton Association before the Utah 2034 Games.
