Triathlete Rachel Furtado Dies After Collapse

The sudden death of the 45/46-year-old triathlete sparks emotion in sports and educational communities

Rachel Furtado, a triathlete and director of Instituto Felicência, suffered a sudden illness while training in Brasília's Parque da Cidade and did not survive despite the firefighters' resuscitation efforts.

What Happened in Parque da Cidade

On Saturday morning, around 8:30 AM, the Federal District Military Fire Department was called to assist a woman who had stopped breathing during a running workout. Firefighters found the victim among cars, already in cardiorespiratory arrest, and began resuscitation maneuvers for over 30 minutes. After stabilizing her vital signs, the victim was transported by helicopter to the Hospital Regional da Asa Norte, where her death was confirmed.

Rachel Furtado's Sports Journey

Rachel practiced triathlon and maintained an intense daily routine, including footvolley, swimming, weight training, and running. Although she had not been competing professionally in recent months, her exercise routine remained diverse and demanding.

Rachel's Role at Instituto Felicência

In addition to her sports career, Rachel held the position of director at Instituto Felicência, a corporate education company founded by her aunt, researcher and psychologist Carla Furtado. After Carla's death in 2023, Rachel took over the leadership of the institute, keeping the founder's legacy alive.

Repercussions Among Colleagues and Family

Friends, students, and collaborators of the institute expressed their sorrow in an official statement. The released text read: "Again, life takes from us too soon someone who did so much for this Institute and for everyone who passed through here. After the passing of Professor Carla Furtado, founder of Felicência, it was Rachel who continued her legacy with purpose and soulful dedication. She embraced this commitment with dedication and care, keeping alive everything the two believed in".
