Intense Storms Hit Paraná This Wednesday
Inmet Issues Two Alerts for 399 Municipalities, Forecasts Heavy Rain and Hail

On Wednesday morning (14), the advance of a cold, dry air mass from Southern Brazil led to storm warnings being issued for almost the entire state of Paraná, generating significant interest from the population and productive sectors.
Storm Alerts Issued by Inmet
The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) published two advisories valid until 11:59 PM. The "danger" storm alert covers 309 cities and forecasts winds up to 100 km/h, daily rainfall up to 100 millimeters (or up to 60 millimeters per hour), and hail. The "potential" storm alert covers all 399 municipalities in the state, with winds up to 60 km/h, daily rainfall up to 50 millimeters, and hail.
Conditions Favoring Instability
According to the Paraná Environmental Technology and Monitoring System (Simepar), the instability results from the interaction between the cold air mass moving south and the presence of a low-pressure system over Paraguay, which intensifies moisture convergence. This combination concentrates the most severe events in the northern and eastern halves of Paraná.
Extratropical Cyclone and Cold Front
Arthur Müller, a meteorologist at Canal Rural, indicates that the formation of an extratropical cyclone starting Friday (16) and the action of a cold front will channel even more moisture into the region. He estimates accumulated rainfall between 100 and 150 millimeters in areas of São Paulo, southern Mato Grosso do Sul, and northern Paraná during the week of October 19-23, with a risk of intense gusts and hail.
Impacts on Agricultural Activities
The predicted rainfall volumes could hinder crop progress, especially for soybeans, which already show advanced planting in Paraná (36% of the cultivated area). The meteorologist recommends caution to producers, advising them to wait for soil moisture recovery before initiating planting in dryland areas.
Temperatures and Situation in Other Regions
While Paraná faces storms, most of the country records a drop in precipitation and rising temperatures. In the Southern Region, the orange "danger" alert continues for Paraná, Santa Catarina, and the northernmost part of Rio Grande do Sul, with isolated thunderstorms. Capital cities register minimums of 10 °C in Porto Alegre and maximums of 20 °C in Curitiba.
