Taís Araújo Spotlights 'Changing Skin' at FAAP Theater

The show “Changing Skin” has arrived at FAAP Theater in São Paulo, bringing Taís Araújo to the center of a production that blends monologue and collective performance. The staging has attracted attention for integrating music of African origin and discussing the experience of the Black population.

The "Changing Skin" Show at FAAP Theater

Presented at FAAP Theater, “Changing Skin” originated as a monologue and expanded its format with the presence of Dani Nega and musician Layla on stage. The production was conceived by Taís Araújo and directed by Yara de Novaes.

Taís Araújo's Participation and Her Characters

Taís portrays three characters: Mayah, a woman nearing 40 who breaks social conventions; Mildred, a nonagenarian Jamaican who fought for civil rights; and Kemi, a young woman who unapologetically exists. The actress emphasized that the play cannot be called a solo because the participation of the other artists is very powerful.

The Presence of Musician Layla and the Kora

Layla, a 28-year-old musician born in Campinas, brought the kora to the stage, an ancestral African instrument made of calabash, leather, and wood. She composed the harmony and kora chords performed in the play. Dani Nega, the musical director, stated that Layla's presence “touches us very deeply.”

The Production and Team Behind the Staging

The production features direction by Yara de Novaes, dramaturgy by Nathalia Cruz, and musical direction by Dani Nega. Lighting design was handled by Gabriele Souza, while costumes were created by Teresa Nabuco. The communication team includes Antonio Trigo and press relations by Estela Cezário, Laís Gomes, and Renata Ramos.

Future Plans to Bring the Play to Campinas

The team intends to bring “Changing Skin” to Campinas, Layla's hometown, where she wishes to see her community in the audience. The goal is to bring the show closer to the population that followed the musician's development.
