Capture in the Águas Claras Neighborhood
The operation took place during another phase of Operation Artemis, a coordinated effort to dismantle criminal organizations. According to Bahia's Public Security Secretariat (SSP-BA), the suspect had already passed through other states before reaching Bahia's capital, where he was surrounded and detained by police teams.
Aim to Set Up Weapons and Drug Network
Investigations indicate that the foreign national intended to establish a distribution network for weaponry, ammunition, and narcotics across national territory. The goal was to supply criminal organizations operating in Brazil, expanding the existing flow of weapons and drugs.
Involvement of Interpol and Red Notice
The detainee was listed on Interpol's Red Notice, a mechanism requesting the location and provisional arrest of internationally wanted individuals. Cooperation between Bahia police and Interpol was decisive in locating the fugitive, who was on the run from Russian justice.
Extradition Process
Following the capture, Brazilian authorities will officially notify Russian authorities and initiate the extradition process. Bahia's Public Security Secretary, Marcelo Werner, highlighted the strength of integration among state, federal, and international forces in locating the fugitive.
Repercussions for Combating Organized Crime
The arrest demonstrates the effectiveness of police intelligence and international collaboration in tackling arms and drug trafficking. The continuation of Operation Artemis is expected to focus on dismantling the networks the suspect intended to establish, reinforcing public safety in the country.
