A doctor living in Dourados was wrongfully arrested at Campo Grande International Airport after being confused with another woman who has the same name and is under investigation for a crime. The Public Defender's Office of Mato Grosso do Sul proved the error and secured the revocation of the arrest warrant after a habeas corpus petition at the Court of Justice.

How the Federal Police approach took place

The arrest occurred on August 4, when doctor Ana Paula Nunes dos Santos was returning from vacation in Salvador. At the time of the approach carried out by the Federal Police at the airport, she was accompanied by her husband and their 6-month-old daughter.

Following the action, she was taken to the police station and spent two nights in jail. After the custody hearing, she was released with an electronic ankle monitor and advised to contact the Public Defender's Office to clarify the situation, wearing the device for 19 days.

The confusion between namesakes in the case

The case involved two women named Ana Paula Nunes dos Santos. The client was born in 1999 and has a different CPF, parentage, and other details from the woman who actually appeared in the criminal lawsuit.

According to public defender Lucas Colares Pimentel, the documents showed that the woman wrongfully arrested had never been summoned, had not presented a defense, nor had she participated in the criminal action.

The Public Defender's action and the release

The Public Defender's Office took the case to the Court of Justice of Mato Grosso do Sul through a habeas corpus petition. The institution requested the end of the restrictions imposed on Ana Paula, the removal of the electronic ankle monitor, and the correction of the records related to the lawsuit.

The objective of the measures was to prevent her from continuing to be confused and, thus, avoid a new arrest due to the same identity error.
