The Freight Law was sanctioned this week, converting into permanent norms the measures that have been in effect since March. This change seeks to provide greater legal certainty to the cargo transport sector, which has experienced frequent adjustments in recent months.

What was already in practice

Since the beginning of March, certain rules have been applied temporarily to regulate the calculation and payment of freight. These measures aimed to balance the relationships among shippers, carriers, and drivers, as well as to ensure coverage of operational costs.

New permanent rules

With the approval of the Freight Law, the temporary provisions become part of the permanent legal framework. The permanence of these rules means that the parties involved in moving goods will have a stable reference to plan their operations, negotiate rates, and fulfill contractual obligations.

Expected impacts

The consolidation of the measures into law can bring benefits such as:

  • Greater predictability in freight costs for companies that ship goods.
  • Legal certainty for carriers and drivers by establishing clear parameters.
  • Balanced negotiations between shippers and service providers, reducing disputes over rates.

By making the rules permanent, the legislation aims to reduce the need for frequent adjustments and provide a more stable environment for the development of cargo transport in the country.
