Elderly Woman with Alzheimer's Found Dead After Ten Days Missing in São.

The disappearance of Venilda Kuster Frisso, a 77-year-old woman with Alzheimer's, triggered a search operation that lasted ten days in São Mateus, in northern Espírito Santo. Her body was found this Tuesday (29) in Bosque da Praia, Guriri, near the Barra Nova road.

What prompted the authorities' mobilization

Venilda left home alone around 4 PM on Saturday (19) and was seen by security cameras walking towards a wooded area. As the elderly woman was not in the habit of going out unaccompanied, her family alerted the police, who immediately began the search.

How the search was conducted

A task force was formed starting on Friday (25), bringing together teams from the Fire Department, Civil Police, Penitentiary Police, Lifeguards, Municipal Guard, and the Air Operations and Transport Nucleus (Notaer). The effort included the use of sniffer dogs, drones, helicopters, and ground support in Guriri's forests, beaches, and abandoned areas.

Location where the body was found

The body, in a state of decomposition, was found in Bosque da Praia, Guriri, near the Barra Nova road. Her daughter, Jany Kuster, a penitentiary police officer, recognized her mother by the clothes she was wearing – shorts and a leopard print blouse – at the location where the search team found the body.

Procedures after the discovery

Following visual identification, the Forensic Police were called, and the body will be sent to the Regional Section of Legal Medicine in Linhares for necropsy and determination of the cause of death. The family will receive the body after official release.

The case highlights the vulnerability of people with Alzheimer's who, even after nine years of treatment, can wander away from home unsupervised. The family reported that the residence gate was unlocked, which allowed the elderly woman to leave. The operation demonstrated the integrated response capability of the state's security and emergency forces in the face of disappearances in hard-to-reach areas.
