Hugo Motta and the conversations revealing deals and legislative projects

Messages obtained by the Federal Police between Hugo Motta and former banker Daniel Vorcaro came to light this Monday, September 28, and explain the increased searches about the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies. The content reveals a “partnership format” for the purchase of land in Paraíba and Motta's involvement in forwarding a bill's text.

Real Estate Deal Involving Motta's Sister-in-Law

According to Folha de S.Paulo, the congressman's sister-in-law received, in March 2024, a loan of at least R$22 million from Banco Master, controlled by Vorcaro. The funds were requested by Hugo Motta and used to acquire, in April 2024, a plot of land over 400 hectares, a former cement factory site in João Pessoa (PB). The amount paid was R$45 million, while the tax value registered by the city hall reaches R$101 million.

Partnership Format and Document Exchange

In the messages, Motta describes the deal as a “partnership format” and asks for guidance to conclude the operation before the short payment deadline to Intercement. On another occasion, he mentions the need to “sort out the signatures” to proceed with the payment, demonstrating direct involvement in finalizing the contract.

Legislative Assistance to the Former Banker

The dialogues also indicate that, in November 2024, Vorcaro asked Motta for assistance in obtaining a text approved in the Senate regarding a carbon bill. Motta replied that he would send the document, indicating that the Speaker of the Chamber would have access to the legislative content before its public disclosure.

Other Points from the Conversations

In addition to the real estate deal and legislative support, the messages mention the Credit Guarantee Fund (FGC) and the availability of an aircraft to transport Motta from Guarulhos to Brasília, offered by Vorcaro in April 2024. In March 2024, Motta thanked Vorcaro for his “trust and partnership,” reinforcing the closeness between the two.

Hugo Motta's Reaction

In a statement sent by his press office, Motta affirmed that he has always maintained dialogue with various segments of society and that “there is no illicit act portrayed in the published dialogues.” He reiterated confidence in the bodies responsible for the investigations and highlighted that the loan agreement was made before the investigations into Banco Master became known.
