Armed stepfather kills elderly woman after chase in São José dos Campos

On the morning of September 24, a shooting in the eastern zone of São José dos Campos resulted in the death of Maria Aparecida Barbosa, 70, while an 18-year-old young woman was stabbed at a beverage store on Avenida Tancredo Neves.

What motivated the shooting

The attacker, armed with a knife, entered the store announcing a robbery and stabbed the 18-year-old employee in the neck and abdomen. After the attack, the suspect attempted to flee.

How the sequence of crimes occurred

A man, identified as the stepfather of the injured young woman, pursued the attacker in a chase. According to the Civil Police, he fired twice at the fugitive; one of the shots hit the elderly woman who was sitting in the passenger seat of a car, shortly after leaving a social project for seniors.

Identification and arrest of the attacker

The 18-year-old, Allan Silva de Lima, was subdued by residents, arrested, and indicted for the attack on the employee. The man who fired the shots handed his weapon over to the police, presented himself voluntarily, and will face charges in freedom for intentional homicide.

Police response and investigation

Security camera footage helped reconstruct the sequence: the elderly woman was shot in the head, her glasses fell to the ground, and the shooter, registered as a collector, sports shooter, and hunter, left the scene in a black pickup truck. Delegate Régis Germano stated that the intention was to hit the attacker, but the shot ended up hitting the woman.

Family reactions

Waldir Gaioso, the victim's son, stated that the family is shaken and demanding justice, emphasizing that his mother was living a good moment before the crime.
