Firefighter and boyfriend shot dead in Duque de Caxias

A military firefighter and his boyfriend, a medical student, were shot dead between the night of June 23 and the early hours of June 24 in the Pantanal neighborhood of Duque de Caxias. The case gained prominence after the release of security camera footage that recorded the approach.

The crime in Duque de Caxias

Pedro Ernesto dos Anjos Rodrigues, 24, was assigned to the corporation's General Personnel Department. He was accompanied by Pedro Henrique Araújo, 26, when both were shot. Investigations indicate that the shots were fired after the victims' car was surrounded by the criminals.

How the victims noticed the pursuit

According to relatives, upon leaving the firefighter's mother's house, the couple noticed they were being followed and tried to drive around the streets to lose the suspects. Pedro Henrique called a relative warning that they were being chased, but the call was cut off.

The criminals' actions according to the footage

Security camera footage recorded part of the action, showing that the suspects' vehicle stopped and, at one point, one of the victims was transferred to the criminals' car. Then, the victims' car was intercepted and the two were subdued.

Where the bodies were found

The bodies were discovered in a wooded area near the communities of Sossego and Cacareco. Next to the corpses, police found several spent ammunition casings.

Procedures following the discovery

The soldier's pistol, loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition, was located under the car seat. The bodies were sent to the Medical-Legal Institute of Nova Iguaçu. Pedro Ernesto will have his wake and burial on the afternoon of June 25 in Cordovil, in the north zone of Rio, while Pedro Henrique's body will be taken to Espírito Santo, his state of origin.
