A popular joint supplement, glucosamine, has been linked to a faster progression of Alzheimer’s disease, according to a new large‑scale health‑record analysis.

The data revealed that users of the product had a 25% higher probability that mild cognitive impairment would progress to dementia. The investigation highlights the compound’s effects in patients already diagnosed with cognitive changes.

Laboratory experiments suggest the supplement may intensify an abnormal sugar‑marking process in the Alzheimer‑affected brain. However, researchers emphasize that future clinical trials are needed to determine whether the product truly causes the observed damage.
