Globoplay prepares telenovela based on Nelson Rodrigues' works

Globoplay has begun preparing its new original telenovela, "Paraíso perdido," a 40-episode series that will adapt classic texts by Nelson Rodrigues for contemporary Rio de Janeiro. Written by George Moura and Sergio Goldenberg, the production is scheduled to start filming in September under the direction of Joana Jabace. The telenovela, slated to premiere in 2027, will feature actors such as Clara Moneke, Alanis Guillen and Alexandre Nero in roles marked by ethical conflicts, crimes and obsessions.

Adaptation of Nelson Rodrigues’ classics

The new Globoplay telenovela is freely inspired by Nelson Rodrigues’ dramaturgy, blending elements from four of the author’s well-known plays: Bonitinha, mas ordinária, A mulher sem pecado, Toda nudez será castigada and Os sete gatinhos. The characters in the plot conceal desires and behaviors that clash directly with the appearance they project to society. The cast preparation for the production began on the 10th.

Werneck’s obsession with Silene

Clara Moneke will portray Silene, a 25‑year‑old massage therapist and university student who balances her studies with work as a companion. Inspired by a character from Os sete gatinhos, she maintains her virginity by personal choice, which arouses the fascination of Werneck, played by Alexandre Nero. Werneck is a transportation businessman known as the King of the Bus, who becomes obsessed with Silene, seeing the young woman’s purity as a chance for redemption from his own sins. Silene’s parents are played by Carlos Francisco and Jussara Mathias, while Maicon Rodrigues portrays her brother.

Maria Cecília’s double life

Alanis Guillen will play Maria Cecília, the youngest daughter of Werneck who is viewed by her father as an untouchable symbol of innocence. Far from the family’s eyes, however, she reveals a complex personality driven by sex and power. Maria Cecília maintains a secret affair with Peixoto, played by Eduardo Sterblitch, who is married to her sister Teresa, portrayed by Carol Garcia, and also serves as her father’s right hand. The young woman will become involved in a crime due to an erotic fantasy and will commit another offense to try to escape the consequences.

The central love triangle of the plot

To try to calm the alleged psychological shock of Maria Cecília after her crimes, the Werneck family encourages her to get close to Edgar, a character played by Juan Paiva. Edgar is a loyal employee of the bus company and comes to be seen as a chance to bring stability to the young woman, but she develops an obsession with him, even using her father’s money to try to win him over. The romantic conflict arises because Edgar is in love with Ritinha, played by Larissa Bocchino, forming the main love triangle in Paraíso perdido.
