Emergency 53: Twists and Dangers Stir Globoplay

The Globoplay platform shook its subscribers this Thursday, August 27, with the arrival of the second batch of episodes of the original series "Emergency 53." The new scenes promise intense twists, unexpected romances, imminent dangers and major changes in the staff of Unit 53.

What is Emergency 53

"Emergency 53" premiered on August 20 and follows the daily routine of professionals from a mobile emergency unit on the streets of Rio de Janeiro. Created by Claudio Torres, Márcio Maranhão and Andrucha Waddington, the Conspiração production brings together well‑known names of Brazilian drama such as Yara de Novaes, Emílio Dantas, Valentina Herszage, Heloísa Jorge, Ana Hikari, Jaffar Bambirra, Raquel Villar and Emílio de Mello.

The series stands out for taking its characters out of hospitals, exploring attendances in homes, streets and accident sites before the patient reaches a health facility. Beyond medical emergencies, the plot delves into the professionals' conflicts, memories and personal dilemmas. "Emergency 53" had already received the Studio Babelsberg Production Excellence Award in February 2026 during the Berlinale Series Market in Germany.

Romances and Caught‑in‑the‑Act Moments at Unit 53

The second batch of episodes brings to light details of Duda's (Ana Hikari) past, the ambulance driver and mechanic. After being kicked out of her house by her father when he discovered her second job, Duda tells Átila (William Nascimento) that she turned to prostitution to afford a new workshop for her father, since she was responsible for burning down the previous one. Following this conversation, Duda and Átila give in to their attraction, kiss and end up having sex inside Unit 53. The moment, however, does not stay secret for long: Glória (Heloísa Jorge) arrives and catches the two naked.

Hostages, Shootout and a Comatose Character

Unit 53’s routine is completely interrupted when Marcelo (Evandro Mesquita), Vandam’s (Jaffar Bambirra) father, escapes from prison and devises a large drug‑trafficking scheme. To force his son to help, Marcelo sends his henchmen to storm the unit and take the health professionals hostage. The situation escalates when Átila opens fire on the criminals. During the exchange, two members of Unit 53 are shot; one is seriously injured and falls into a coma.

New Leadership and Relationships

After so many events, Irene (Yara de Novaes), the doctor in charge of the team, decides it’s time to step down from leading Unit 53. She acknowledges having built a group capable of saving many lives, but admits she couldn’t protect everyone around her. Irene chooses Glória (Heloísa Jorge) to assume leadership of the 53, and Glória accepts the challenge but sets a condition: Irene must leave the unit and not interfere with her management.

In her personal life, Glória also experiences changes. After ending her marriage and navigating a series of mishaps on a dating app, she confides in her friend and lawyer, Selma (Ana Flávia Cavalcanti). The conversation takes a new turn when Selma reveals her attraction to Glória and kisses her. The two end up in bed, unaware that an unexpected visitor is about to appear: Júlio, Glória’s son, who decides to surprise his mother at her apartment.

Manuela’s Drama and a Fatal Accident

Manuela (Valentina Herszage), a nurse, goes through a rough patch. In addition to watching her parents’ marriage fall apart, she relapses into drug use. When Glória catches her using cocaine during an attendance, Manuela is fired from the team. Even while away, the rookie refuses to give up on getting her job back. She seeks out Glória at the 53, admits she is clean and begs for another chance. Her return, however, is marked by a high‑risk incident: a rockslide on a highway. While treating the victims, Manuela is struck by a new “wave” of stones, becoming buried and severely injured. The series leaves it open whether the nurse will survive.
