The average price of diesel reached a record $6.49 per gallon, according to GasBuddy, driven by clashes between Houthis and Saudi Arabia and the war between Iran and Ukraine, which affect international energy transport.

Shaener warns that when costs rise, waste collection is the first to feel the impact, as clients need to cut expenses. He emphasizes that the company must communicate the situation to clients, employees, and investors, as financial pressure can reduce investments and affect the workforce.

Although contracts provide for annual or quinquennial adjustments, the speed of the diesel price hike prevents JLT from immediately passing on costs. Shaener indicates that, with no relief in sight, the company may face a decrease in business and the need to review its pricing strategies in the future.
