Dian postpones income tax for earthquake-affected taxpayers
The measure seeks to facilitate tax compliance in areas impacted by the emergency
On August 21, 2026, tax measures were adopted by the National Government to facilitate compliance with tax obligations in zones impacted by an emergency. The decision made it possible to postpone tax deadlines for hundreds of thousands of people affected by an earthquake.
Postponement of tax deadlines
The Directorate of National Taxes and Customs postponed the deadlines for filing and paying income tax for approximately 308,000 taxpayers in the areas affected by the earthquake of last August 10. With this measure, citizens will be able to focus their efforts on addressing the consequences derived from the quake.
Participation of affected regional offices
The director of the entity, Andrés Felipe Velásquez Reyes, explained that the affected regional offices account for about 14% of the country's total filers. The entity estimates that between October and November, approximately 213 billion pesos will be collected corresponding to rescheduled obligations.
Conditions applied to the department of Cauca
In the case of Cauca, the directive benefits approximately 24,800 taxpayers, with estimated collection exceeding 9.7 billion pesos. The benefit was established through Decree 1226 of August 18, 2026.
- It applies exclusively to natural persons and unliquidated estates required to file income tax.
- It is intended for NITs ending between 01 and 26.
- It requires a tax domicile in municipalities of the Popayán Directorate of Taxes and Customs Branch until August 10, 2026.
This group will be able to file and pay their return between October 27 and November 13, 2026, according to the last two digits of the NIT, disregarding the check digit. Those who do not meet the conditions must follow the original tax calendar.
How to verify the data in the registry
Citizens can verify the coverage of the postponement by consulting the Single Tax Registry. Box 12 identifies the regional tax office of the tax domicile, while boxes 39, 40, and 41 show the department, municipality, and main address.
Voluntary contribution for reconstruction
The tax authority invited taxpayers nationwide to make a voluntary contribution on their income tax return to support the care, reconstruction, and assistance of affected families. The amount can be included in box 141 of form 210 for residents, or in box 117 of form 110 for non-residents.
