Corinthians take the field tonight against Chapecoense needing points to improve their position in the Campeonato Brasileiro standings. The match, valid for the 26th round, could change the Timão's position and narrow the gap to the G5.

After 25 rounds, the team led by Fernando Diniz sits in 11th place with 32 points and an overall success rate of 42 %. In the general standings, the club is eight points behind the group that secures a spot in the 2027 pre-Libertadores and seven points clear of the relegation zone.
What a win against Chapecoense could change
A victory would take Corinthians to 35 points, surpassing São Paulo, who had already played, and taking tenth place. The club would be tied on points with ninth-placed Red Bull Bragantino, but ahead on number of wins (ten against nine). In addition, the gap to Bahia, the current leader of the G5, would drop to eight points.
Consequences of a draw or defeat
If the match ends in a draw, the Timão will remain in 11th place, potentially dropping to 12th if Botafogo beats Palmeiras. A loss would keep the tally at 32 points and open the possibility of dropping to 14th place if Botafogo, Santos, and Vitória win their matches this round, bringing the club closer to the 25 points of Vasco da Gama, who currently open the relegation zone.
Recent performance in the second half of the season
In the second half of the season, Corinthians have played six matches, claiming only one win – over Red Bull Bragantino – and recording two draws (against Bahia and Athletico-PR).
