The clash between Flamengo and Corinthians, held last Sunday (13) at the Maracanã, was decisive for the second-round standings of the Brasileirão. The 2-1 red-and-black victory propelled the team to the top of the table, while Timão remained in last place.

Flamengo Takes Second-Round Lead

With 17 points in 24 games, Flamengo reached the top of the second-round standings after defeating Corinthians. The triumph was also favored by Cruzeiro's defeat to Santos, which kept the Minas Gerais club in third place with 16 points.

Corinthians Remains at the Bottom

Corinthians accumulated only five points in 24 matches and remained in last place in the table. The poor performance keeps the team far from the qualification zone for the final phase of the championship.

Bruno Henrique Decides the Match

Forward Bruno Henrique, who celebrated his 200th game for Flamengo, scored the winning goal in the 44th minute of the second half. After coming on at halftime, he received a pass from Joaquín Freitas and finished into the back of the net, sealing the 2-1 result.

Impact on Relegation Zone (Z-4) Positions

With the defeat, Inter and Vasco left the Z-4 thanks to victories against Chapecoense and Grêmio, respectively. Corinthians, in turn, remains in the risk zone, while Flamengo advanced to first place, one point behind Palmeiras, who has 56 points.

Coach's Comments

Coach Leonardo Jardim praised Bruno Henrique's attitude, highlighting the seriousness and dedication of the forward, who has been a benchmark even after 2019. Jardim emphasized that the player prioritizes the collective and is willing to play both as a starter and coming off the bench.
