International community stands in solidarity with Colombia after 7.4 earthquake

On the morning of August 10, 2026, Colombia was struck by a magnitude‑7.4 quake, with its epicenter in San José del Palmar, Chocó, and a depth of 82 kilometres, according to a preliminary bulletin from the Colombian Geological Service. The earthquake has already recorded at least 100 deaths and caused structural collapses in the Coffee Axis and the western part of the country, creating an urgent need for international assistance.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the Trump administration is closely monitoring the situation and is ready to help the Colombian people and President Abelardo de la Espriella's government. Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa announced the availability of a USAR unit composed of 47 rescuers, trained dogs, and equipment to operate for seven days, adding: “We are ready to mobilize when required.” Bolivia’s Foreign Minister expressed deep sorrow and solidarity: “Bolivia deeply regrets the loss of human lives and extends its heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, as well as wishes a speedy recovery to the injured and its solidarity with the affected communities.” Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino also stated: “Our solidarity with Colombia. Reactions from North America

Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum pledged full support: “Of course, all the support that the people of Colombia may need, if necessary, we will be there.” In an additional statement, she added: “We learned a moment ago about the severe earthquake in Colombia.
