On the morning of August 10, 2026, a strong magnitude 7.4 earthquake shook central and western Colombia, leaving more than 100 dead and causing serious damage to buildings, roads and airports. The tragedy mobilized several celebrities, who used their social media to show solidarity and promote aid channels.

Shakira sends a message of support

Using her Instagram account, the Barranquilla-born singer wrote: “Dear Colombia, my heart is with everyone who felt this earthquake today and with the families going through moments of anguish.” She added: “All my strength and love to my land. Let’s hug tightly and stay alert to the instructions so we can help as soon as possible.”

J Balvin, Maluma and Ryan Castro express solidarity

J Balvin posted: “Much strength with this earthquake situation in Colombia, strength for all its people and families who are affected.” Maluma wrote: “What a pain all that is happening in Colombia, a hug to the souls of all the victims’ families and we are here ready to help.” He then shared official information about aid channels in his Stories. Ryan Castro also spoke out: “We will all help each other as a family, count on me for whatever I can do to join the affected people.”

Luis Díaz and Richard Ríos expand the reach of aid

Footballer Luis Díaz used Instagram to say: “Much strength to all those affected by the earthquake in Colombia. My heart and thoughts are with you.” Other national team players, such as Richard Ríos, used their accounts to share the same official assistance channels.

Marc Anthony and Ricardo Montaner offer international support

New York singer Marc Anthony, on his X account, wrote: “I send you an immense hug from afar. All my prayers are with those affected by the earthquake. Know that my heart is with you and your families.” Ricardo Montaner, in turn, provided on his “The House Project” foundation profile a donation link starting at one dollar, aiming to help those who lost their homes.

Details of the August 10 earthquake

According to the Colombian Geological Service, the epicenter was in San José del Palmar, Chocó, at a depth of 82 kilometers. The Coffee Axis and the western part of the country recorded structural collapses, falling debris and serious damage to homes and public infrastructure. The Unified Command Post report indicated more than 100 dead, while the PMU recorded 111 fatalities.
