How Claudio Carsughi Started in Journalism

He was born in Arezzo, Italy, on October 13, 1932, and moved to Florence as a child. In 1946, with his family, he arrived in Brazil, where he studied at Colégio Dante Alighieri in São Paulo, and later graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering from the Polytechnic School of USP. At 16, he was already working as a correspondent for the Italian newspaper “Corriere dello Sport,” participating in the coverage of the 1950 World Cup, held in Brazil.

Career in Radio and Television

In 1957, he began a nearly six-decade relationship with Jovem Pan, where he covered five consecutive World Cups (1970, 1974, 1978, 1982, and 1986). He also worked for radio stations Bandeirantes and Record, and had stints at Rádio Nacional and TV Brasil. On television, he worked for ESPN Brasil, commenting on “Linha de Passe,” and for SporTV, in addition to collaborating with TV Brasil.

Work in Motorsports and Formula 1

Carsughi was the technical director of “Quatro Rodas” magazine between 1974 and 1990, executive editor of “Oficina Mecânica,” and founder of “Auto&Técnica.” He tested the Volkswagen Gol and drove a Ferrari Testarossa in 1992. In motorsports, he became one of the country's most respected commentators on Formula 1, focusing on mechanics, engines, and team strategies.

Legacy and Tribute

In 2023, he was honored by the Legislative Assembly of the State of São Paulo for his career and contribution to Brazilian journalism and motorsports. His daughter, Claudia Carsughi, published a text on the family's portal highlighting her father's ethics, surgical objectivity, and integrity, calling him “Master Carsughi.”
