GDACS, the global disaster alert and coordination system run by the UN and the European Commission, issued a orange (moderate to high) alert for event "SAUDEL-26" (tropical cyclone) affecting Northern Mariana Islands, Japan.

From the official bulletin: From 18/08/2026 to 21/08/2026, a Hurricane/Typhoon > 74 mph (maximum wind speed of 231 km/h) SAUDEL-26 was active in NWPacific. The cyclone affects these countries: Northern Mariana Islands, Japan (vulnerability Low). Estimated population affected by category 1 (120 km/h) wind speeds or higher is 1.315 million .
