Heavy Rains Arrive in Vale do Paraíba and North Coast

On Wednesday (9) and Thursday (10), São Paulo's Civil Defense issued a heavy rain alert for Vale do Paraíba and the North Coast. The forecast indicates up to 70 millimeters of rain, mainly in the afternoon, in the form of showers. The instability is caused by elongated low-pressure areas, which favor the formation of storm clouds.

Storms may be accompanied by lightning, hail, and winds up to 65 km/h. The eastern strip of the state, where Vale do Paraíba and the North Coast are located, faces a higher risk. The Civil Defense recommends avoiding flooded areas, not crossing roads with accumulated water, and staying away from trees, poles, and metal structures during strong winds.

Inmet issued a yellow rain alert, indicating potential danger, for 464 municipalities in Minas Gerais. The Metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte, Triângulo, Alto Paranaíba, Central, Zona da Mata, Centro-Oeste, Sul, Campo das Vertentes, and other areas may experience storms with the possibility of hail until 11:59 PM on 9/9.

The alert forecasts up to 50 millimeters of rain per day, considered heavy by meteorology. Winds could reach 60 km/h, with risks of power outages, damage to crops, falling trees, and flooding. It is recommended to avoid sheltering under trees, as there is a risk of falling branches and electric discharges, and not to park vehicles near transmission towers and advertising billboards.
